Our vision

  • To support the Ministry of Defence's strategic objectives through effective port and harbour operations
  • To maximise the economic value of Marchwood to the local community while minimising the environmental impact of development.

Supporting the Ministry of Defence

Our core function is the delivery of port management services primarily to the British Army as required in the defence of the UK.

Marchwood is home to the 17 Port & Maritime Regiment, Royal Logistics Corps LINK whom we support to ensure the safe and effective movement of stores, personnel and ammunition from Marchwood to supply Army operations across the globe.

We do this through a team of Sponsored Reserves and civilian staff. Our Sponsored Reserves are employed as civilian port operators and supervisors but are mobilised as Army Reservists deployed with 165 Port and Maritime Regiment.

Commercial opportunities

While our primary purpose is the delivery of world-class port services in support of the UK's strategic defence interests, Marchwood is also one of the most important development sites on the Solent with capability of adding additional port capacity in both the import and export of goods.

It is one of the last undeveloped waterfront sites around Southampton water and has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits for the local area and the national economy.

The commercial focus of Marchwood will be a balance between the potential benefit of jobs and employment security for the local community and the sensitivities of the local environment.

We are currently exploring a range of opportunities for the site and local consultation will follow our initial feasibility studies.
