Break Bulk Europe

Solent Gateway’s Special Cargo solutions

It was great to meet you at Break Bulk Europe in Rotterdam this year.

Not everything can be conveniently shipped in a container and our specialist teams make the process as simple as possible by offering a complete handling service, from yard to vessel or vessel to storage.

Whether your consignment is arriving at the port already lashed and loaded on a flat rack, or in need of lifting, lashing and securing on-site or on-vessel, we are in the best position to ensure all your cargo handling needs are accommodated and can assist you without impacting core container operations.

The port’s highly-skilled port operatives are able to deploy specialist lifting equipment with the ability to load and unload non-unitised and out of gauge cargoes alongside the standard container operations, as well as more complicated heavy project and break bulk cargoes.

One of Solent Gateway’s key features is its unique rail connection direct to berth, which allows customers to discharge from ship to rail. The port is served by 13km of rail siding and its own dedicated locomotives which helps customers to achieve greater efficiencies.

The rail connection is utilised effectively by many of our existing customers to forward their freight after arrival. This is part of the additional services on offer, alongside extensive warehousing, haulage and customs clearance.

Solent Gateway announced in February this year, it has been granted planning consent for the development of the port, which will modernise its operations and facilities whilst crucially improving its capability to allow a wide range of cargoes and commodities to be transported through the port using its RORO and LOLO facilities.

Solent Gateway announced in February this year, it has been granted planning consent for the The investment is around £50 million to develop the port, with potential investment from third parties anticipated to be around £200 million. The port is also uniquely positioned as a tax site and customs site as part of the successful Solent Freeport bid and puts Solent Gateway at the forefront of being able to benefit businesses for the long or short term.
